I can barely remember the original Pete’s Dragon. I vaguely recall the cheesy cartoon effects and the barely-there plot to go with the bad acting and nauseating songs. All in all, it wasn’t one of Disney’s best efforts.
Now comes word that there is a remake in the works. While I wouldn’t initially be excited about this, the casting has me stoked to see what comes out of it.
Sci-Fi fanboy favourite Karl Urban will be acting alongside Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard, which immediately makes this an intriguing movie. Add to that the rumour that this movie won’t be a sing-along, and you’ve piqued my interest.
The story will apparently be similar in the fact that Pete is an orphan who is raised in the forest by his dragon friend. Thankfully, in this case the dragon will be CGI-rendered and not 2D-animated.
So what do you think? Is the world in need of a Pete’s Dragon remake?
