The World According to ZAH

  • Clashes in Baltimore over death of Freddie GrayI’d like to wish everybody living in Baltimore nothing but positive thoughts. It’s a bad situation that didn’t need to break down the way it did. America needs healing. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but it can’t continue going on the way it is. There needs to be change…REAL change. I hope it happens for you.
  • King BarrettSo Bad News Barrett won the 2015 King of the Ring tournament in a final match over Neville. This is intriguing. You wonder if WWE had the KotR set-up before Daniel Bryan got injured. If that was the case, was this tournament created to push Barrett without the IC title around his waist? I think Barrett has improved inside the ring by leaps and bounds over the past few years, so he’s deserving of a push (especially after how terribly his last IC title reign was booked). I think “King Barrett” has a nice ring to it and I look forward to seeing what he can do with the gimmick in 2015.
  • Jameis WinstonEverybody and their dog knew that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were going to pick QB Jameis Winston as the #1 pick overall. The real hot question going into last night’s draft was which team was going to end up with the #2 spot to pick up QB Marcus Mariota.  I read a rumour yesterday morning that the Cleveland Browns had offered two first-round picks for the Tennessee Titans’ #2 overall pick. Then the rumours flew around that the Philadelphia Eagles were willing to Marcus Mariotatrade Sam Bradford to the Browns in order to get enough first round picks to trade up to the #2 spot and get Mariota. At the end of the day, the Titans decided to keep Mariota for themselves, which is probably a good idea considering their track record with winning quarterbacks. At the end of the day, this has to suck for last year’s heralded rookie flop Johnnie “Football” Manziel. What a rough time to be a Browns fan. At least the Eagles could claim that Mariota would have been their QB of the future while they rode whatever “hot hand” they had with Bradford and Mark Sanchez for the next year or two. But this is why I love the NFL: you NEVER know what’s going to happen!
  • Damien SandowDamien Sandow is officially “on his own”. After what I saw on RAW, it appears as though his gimmick will be to simply mock his opponents in order to get a laugh out of the crowd. Will that work on a continual basis? Perhaps. Can this make him a champion somehow? No, I don’t think so. I actually loved his original gimmick as the “Intellectual Saviour” and thought he had both the in-ring skills and the mic skills to run with some type of title reign. Unfortunately, that never really panned out. Can Sandow succeed as a babyface? Only time will tell, but my guess is “no”. I believe he’s much better off (much like The Miz) as a heel.
  • courtney-stoddenCourtney Stodden is a wannabe celebrity who is most famous for being a teenager who married a 50-something year old C-level actor. After years of lip and breast implants without anything more than casual mentions on TMZ, Stodden has finally decided to do what all self-respecting women do: release a sex tape. This one, though, is going to be a solo affair. I won’t lie…I’ll be downloading this as soon as it’s released. For as slutty as this woman is, she’s super hot. Her lips and her breasts need to go back to “regular size” in order to be incredible, though. I just don’t know what else she plans to do with her life. Will some kind of real career come out of this? I don’t know, but if it worked for Kim Kardashian and that Teen Mom chick…courtney-stodden 1
  • Lana 8What’s the deal with Lana? Why is WWE letting her play to the fan support, not only in person but on social media by using the #WeWantLana hastag? Obviously, they’re foreshadowing the eventual break-up of her and Rusev…but if that’s the case, what does she do next? She’s not a trained athlete and was hired by WWE to an actress. To the best of my knowledge, she hasn’t done any in-ring training so she couldn’t really be a “Diva” in the full sense of the word. Would she drop the Russian accent? Would she manage someone else? The whole thing is weird…especially at a time when the Lana/Rusev team is so hot. Don’t get me wrong…I think she could TOTALLY be this generation’s version of Sunny, but I’m just a bit confused as to how they make the transition.
  • The trailer for Ted 2: Legalize Ted came out this week. I enjoyed the first one and, honestly, this one doesn’t look too bad, either. Nothing insanely awesome, but it looks funny.

  • Billy Corgan - TNAWhat’s the deal with Billy Corgan joining TNA? Here’s a company that couldn’t afford to keep AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Bully Ray, Velvet Sky, and Samoa Joe (how is THAT for a stacked indy show??) or even long-time commentator Taz…but they’re going to dish out big bucks to what is essentially a wrestling fan who wants to re-write wrestling in a way that’s “new and innovative”? No offense to Corgan, but what has he done to prove what he can bring to the table? Does he have the ability to tackle race relations or transgender performers in a realistic and sensitive way? I obviously have to wait and see where things go, but this company has made one horrifically bad move after another over the years and are still able to hang by a thread. I dare say this might be their final shot.
  • Green DayFrom the “You Know You’re Old When” files, Green Day was recently voted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. I mean…really? I was in university when I heard the record Kerplunk for the first time. Once Dookie was released I bought 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and fell in love with the band. I’ve been a fan ever since and can’t believe that they’ve been around long enough to go into the HoF. I mean…yeah. It seems a little rushed but I guess 25 years is long enough to justify a hall of fame career.
  • Obviously, this week’s Song of the Week has to come from Green Day. I’ve picked one of the songs I first heard prior to Dookie coming out: 2,000 Light Years Away.
