Money in the Bank predictions

Money in the BankTonight, exclusively on the WWE Network, we will have yet another “live event”…Money in the Bank. It’s been a wild month of May with WWE promoting three live events with only two-week periods in between them, but I think they’ve done a decent job of pushing the card with the time that they’ve had.

As such, here are my predictions for the PPV:

R-Truth vs King Barrett (pre-show match)

R-TruthI don’t know why the hell WWE made Barrett king of anything because, at this point, he’s been booked to be a joke ever since. Remember his last Intercontinental title reign? Even worse. I don’t understand why they feel the need to bury the guy. I mean, he’s the damn King of the Ring and he’s getting pinned all over the place. Being “king” makes him look even worse now with all the jobs that he’s doing. I just don’t get it.

The New Day vs The Prime Time Players (WWE tag team title match)

New DayI’m glad that they’re giving Titus O’Neil and Darren Young a chance to shine on a PPV, but they are certainly not over enough with the WWE Universe to justify taking the belts off the red-hot champs. I see the challengers getting about as close as you can get to winning without actually winning (maybe the referee gets knocked out?) so that they can leave the loss still looking strong. I mean, you’ve got a great PR team in the PTP with both men able to speak in public about different things…it’d be good to have them get more face-time.

WINNERS: The New Day

Ryback vs. Big Show (Intercontinental title match)

RybackI said this in my RAW recap on Tuesday, but I give WWE kudos for doing whatever they can to put over Ryback as a babyface. I don’t think it’s working, but that’s just my opinion of the crowds when they’re not doing the “feed me more” chant. He’s been in face-offs with The Miz and Big Show over the past couple of weeks, two of the more disliked superstars in the company. And really, Show doing the job here doesn’t hurt him but helps put over Ryback…so why not?

WINNER: Ryback

Nikki Bella vs Paige (WWE Divas title match)

PaigeThe inexplicable and unexplainable flips between babyface and heel by the Bella Twins has me hating them even more than I did before. Nikki is the more attractive of the two ladies (I’ll give you two Double-D reasons) and is dating the anchor of the entire company. Is that why she’s champion? No, but that’s why she’s held it for this long. My guess is that they’re going to have Bella retain the title until she breaks AJ Lee’s streak of longest reigning Divas champion. The problem with that is Nikki isn’t good enough to justify that decision. If you want to get rid of Lee’s record, let Paige run with it or bring up either Charlotte or Sasha Banks from NXT and let them reign for a year. As least they can wrestle.

WINNER: I’m still hoping for the upset – Paige

John Cena vs Kevin Owens

John CenaI can’t tell you how happy I was to see Owens go over Cena CLEAN at the last PPV. Will that happen again? Please…when has Cena EVER let somebody get two clean wins over him since becoming U.S. champion over a decade ago? The internet will go nuts about a “burial”, but Owens has already been made by the first win. As much as I want to see a repeat, I think WWE Creative want Cena to not look weak for more than two weeks at a time. Plus there’s a SummerSlam rubber match for the United States title just waiting for happen.

WINNER: John Cena

Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Championship match)

Seth RollinsAmbrose has been getting the best of Rollins for a few weeks now. The Authority has said that they’ll step back and let Rollins fight this battle on his own. It has all of the makings of a new WWE champion, doesn’t it? Well…not so fast. WWE rationale and storytelling states that when a babyface challenger is going to lose to a heel champion at a PPV, they have to look strong on the final show before that PPV so people will believe that the babyface can win on Sunday. It gives people a reason to watch the show because they want to see a title switch and believe it will happen. But really, the odds are stacked against Rollins at this point, even though Ambrose is the most popular man on the WWE roster right now.

WINNER: Seth Rollins. He’s simply too hot to take the belt off at this point. PLUS, there is Brock Lesnar on the horizon at SummerSlam.

Dolph Ziggler vs Neville vs Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton vs Kofi Kingston vs Sheamus vs Kane (Money in the Bank ladder match for title match contract)

Roman ReignsThis should be an entertaining match, especially considering some of the participants involved. I mean, Ziggler and Neville and Kingston alone should make for a helluva fun battle. My guess is that all three of them are there simply for the “flash” and not for the substance, so I don’t see them winning (though they are dark-horses). I don’t see Kane winning, though he might get close. That leaves us with Reigns, Orton, and Sheamus. I think it’s obvious that WWE is pushing Reigns as “the guy” to win this, but it could possible end up with a situation like you did after the Royal Rumble. Randy Orton is always in the title picture, but I see him more as a straight challenger at this point…not somebody who needs the briefcase to cash in as a babyface. Sheamus? He’s the guy who could use it the most and run with it. WWE has dropped the ball with him since his return, so giving him this briefcase would be a MASSIVE way to restore his push in a very big way. I’ve never been much on the Sheamus bandwagon before, but he has put on some great matches since returning and his new look is killer.

WINNER (i.e. who I hope will win): Sheamus
